The Challenge
The single most valuable service provided by our planet today is the balancing of greenhouse gases and splitting CO2 into sequestered Carbon and released Oxygen. However, all natural, terrestrial carbon sinks on the planet, i.e. forests, wetlands etc. currently absorb less than estimated 30% of human carbon emissions. Estimated 40% are absorbed by the oceans, causing increasing acidification, the leading cause of coral bleaching, while 30% cannot be absorbed and remains in the atmosphere, causing Climate Change.
Meanwhile, only a fraction of the +USD250 Billion Emission Trading Scheme annual transactions actually trickles down to the stakeholders and owners of carbon sinks, providing little incentive to protect or develop effective carbon sinks.
